ADIYAMAN MUSEUM

Adıyaman Museum gained its modern building in 1982 and started to serve in it since then.  The museum building is a single-storey building built on a basement floor, with a large garden and is located in the most beautiful part of the city center. The works are exhibited in the inner garden with two large halls and an intermediate hall that connects this hall. The museum has become the richest museum in the region, with the artefacts obtained via domestic and foreign excavations throughout the years in the Lower Euphrates Region along objects brought to the museum through purchases and other means. Hand axes, drillers and cutters belong to Palaeolithic Period; terracotta pots from the Chalcolithic Period, ornaments from the Bronze Age and ceramic pots from the Roman and Islamic Periods are being exhibited in the museum.In addition, there is a cult statue from the Neolithic period similar to the sculptures in Şanlıurfa GöbekliTepe, which depicts the birth moment of a goddess. Seals from various periods, jewellery belong to men and women, human and animal figurines, mosaics, gold, silver and bronze coins; local ethnographic artefacts are included in the inventory.
