ETNOGRAPHY MUSEUM

Antalya is one of the places, in which Turkey’s natural beauties and historical richness intensively placed. The Lycian, Roman and Byzantian civilizations’ ancient cities lined up along the Mediterranean seashore takes their visitors away back to thousands of years past. But history of Antalya is not limited only with these ages. The city is a continuous residental area and maintained its importance even on Seljukian and ottoman Periods and kept its cultural richness coming from its history, till present time. The ones who want to see Antalya city’s recent history and public culture, will see how rich the city is with its social life, culture and traditions. The Museum is located on Kaleiçi, the touristic region of Antalya city centrum, is created by designing two historical mansions  from Ottoman Period. The museum was differentiated as Lower and Upper Mansion and different artifacts can be seen in both. In Lower Mansion, there are Turkish-Islamic artifacts and in Upper Mansion are Daily life objects of public of Antalya from Ottoman Period supported with visualisations. At the first floor of Lower Mansion, there are foundings unearthed from the excavations at Kaleiçi beside the glazed tiles coming from the Aspendos Theater, which is one the most well known historical buildings. These glazed tiles are from the times Seljukians were using the theater as a palace and they are some of the best and rare examples of their period. As Ottoman Period remainings, there are ceramics from best production centers like İznik, Kütahya and Çanakkale beside the handmade glass works with several aims of usage. The second floor is designed to see weapons, other daily life objects and calligraphy examples of Ottoman Period. The other mansion is a place to learn how the daily life was in Antalya, especially in Ottoman Period. The first floor of the mansion intensely full of architectural remainings from Ottoman Period. You can see also Döşemealtı Carpets produced in Antalya and the looms flashing to the producing phases of this carpets. The Mansion, with visualisations taking an important place, presents the domestic life of Antalya in Ottoman period, inside rooms with period-specific artifacts. Also the Yuruk life revives with visualisations as an important part of the culture of Antalya. The epitaphs from Seljukian and Ottoman Periods, the cannons with their balls and grave Stones are the pieces which can be seen in the garden of the mansions.
