Erzurum Castle

Erzurum Castle, located in the city center of Erzurum, consists of an inner castle and an outer castle surrounding it. The construction of Erzurum Castle, which is dated to the foundation of the city of Erzurum, dates back to the 5th century. The Castle Mescit, which was added in the 12th century during the Saltukid Period and is one of the oldest Turkish structures in Erzurum, and Erzurum Castle with its Tray Minaret, are among the structures that symbolize the city. The Tepsi Minaret was used both as the minaret of the Masjid in the Castle and as the watchtower of the Castle. Kale Masjid, which is accepted as the oldest Turkish structure in Erzurum, has an interesting architectural feature between the mosque and the tomb. There is also a fountain with a pointed arch inscription on the southern facade of the castle.

Various spaces, ceramics, and small finds groups were unearthed in Erzurum Castle with the scientific excavations that have continued regularly since 2000.
