The most outstanding collection of the Samsun Archeology and Ethnography Museum is the Amisos antique city finds and the Amisos treasure found in the burial chamber in this city. Among the burial chamber finds, the gold jewelry belonging to a man, a woman, and a girl is particularly essential. These artifacts from the Hellenistic Period are indicative of the art and personality of the time. Coins from the Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Ottoman and Republican periods are also exhibited in the museum.
Artifacts from the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze, Hittite Hellenistic, and Roman Periods from Samsun and its surroundings are also among the collection of the museum. Bronze spearhead embossed on both sides, surgical skulls from the Early Bronze Age, and the bronze nude athlete statue, which is a copy of the original from the 5th century B.C, are in demand. Ethnographic artifacts are in a separate section. The construction of the Archeology and Ethnography Museum, which is located in the center of Samsun and is closed, started in 1976 and was opened to visitors on May 19, 1981. The new building of Samsun Museums has opened to visiting for all at 13 March 2023.
