Çanakkale Anatolian Hamidiye Bastion, Çanakkale Wars History Museum

The Anatolian Hamidiye Bastion consists of the Çanakkale Wars History Museum, Çanakkale Central Barbaros Quarter, the Çanakkale Wars History Museum, the Culture Park, and the Miniature Gallipoli area in an area of 104,609.00 m² in 139 blocks 19 parcels. Anadolu Hamidiye Bastion was registered with the decision of the High Council of Real Estate, Antiquities and Monuments, dated 10.07.1976 and numbered 9291. With a protocol signed between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and our Presidency on 20.07.2018, the Anatolian Hamidiye Bastion was allocated to our Presidency for a period of 10 years. It was put into service on 09.10.2018.

In the Hamidiye Bastion, which was built by Asaf Pasha by Sultan Abdulhamid II in the 1890s to ensure the security of the Bosphorus, there are 10 bonnets (arsenal) structures and 9 cannon platforms positioned in a semi-circular form among them. The most powerful cannons of the era are located here. The inner parts of the bonnets are made of rubble stone and the outer parts are made of smooth-cut stone. The Anatolian Hamidiye Bastion is the base where the command headquarters are located. Therefore, the 3rd and 8th bonnets are wider and have two floors compared to the other bonnets. The commander of the Anatolian Hamidiye Bastion, our only fortification, mostly Germans, where the artillery soldiers were trained before the Great Bosphorous Battle, is a German Major.

In the existing bonnets, the First World War and the Battle of Çanakkale are described in a chronological setting. In addition, the effects of the war on economic and social life, its reflection on the present day, in accordance with the understanding of contemporary museology, were conveyed to visitors in a dramatic and thematic manner with the help of exhibitions, and animations, interactive methods, and graphics.

1. Bonnet: At the entrance, there are artifacts unearthed in the II. Abdülhamid's Commemorative Ensign and the Rescue Excavation of the Anatolian Hamidiye Bastion.

2. Bonnet: The effects of World War 1 on the whole world and why it was named world war are explained, and the front animation and the weapons used during the Battle of Çanakkale are introduced and exhibited through kiosks.

3. Bonnet: In the exhibition titled "What Do Commanders Think", there are photographs of the commanders who participated in the 1st World War, the call to war, the effect of war on daily life, and the items used exhibited.

4. Bonnet: You can watch and listen to what is happening on the Dardanelles Front day by day on the topographical Bosphorous map describing the Çanakkale Fronts. The items used by the soldiers at the front are exhibited in the interior.

5. Bonnet: Replicas of end-of-century inventions are featured in the exhibition "What the World Met in the 1800s". With the theme of waiting for two lines of letters away from home, you can read the letters of the soldiers in the front with their families and listen to the memories.

6. Bonnet: The Jihadiye ring and the War medal designed for this bonnet welcomes the visitors in the hallway.
In the left space, you can see the original war medal, the attack order given by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on the Bloody Ridge, and his personal belongings. In the health showcase located in the right space; There is the equipment used during the treatment in the hospitals, and the model of the Gülcemal Ferry, which provides the transfer of those who are in serious condition to the hospitals established in Istanbul by the Hilal-i Ahmer Associations, is exhibited.

7. Bonnet: There are war agreements and prisoner records made at the end of World War I. In the right room, on the lament gates where the lament of an epic is told; after watching the martyrdoms in the historical area of Gallipoli, you can see the clothes and weapons used by the Anzac, Ottoman, and French soldiers.

8. Bonnet: Organized training and workshops as well as temporary exhibitions. In the 2019-2020 academic year, the Mind and Intelligence games course for children, adults, and individuals with special needs was active.

9th and 10th Bonnet: These two bonnets are reserved for temporary exhibitions. In addition, in the 9th Bonnet 2019-2020 academic year, it operated as a Nakkaşhane by the Traditional Turkish Arts Department of ÇOMÜ Fine Arts Faculty.

Our museum can be visited with the virtual glasses located in our administrative building for our visitors with special needs.

Within the Anatolian, Hamidiye Bastion is the Miniature Gallipoli Area, where the miniatures of the Castles, Bastions, and Martyrdoms on both sides of the Dardanelles are located.  In the garden display, there are German-made Albatros models, two-man unarmed reconnaissance, and bomber aircraft used on the Turkish fronts in the First World War.

Anadolu Hamidiye Bastion welcomes its visitors with its 40,000 m² green area, walking track and picnic area, children's playgrounds, ceremony area, and cafeterias.
